Pakistan is the fourth largest producer of cotton in the world & possesses an abundance of low-cost labor. Despite such opportunities, apparel manufacturing & exporting organizations in Pakistan have been unable to exploit market opportunities due to poor supply chain performance. Existing literature does not stress the causes of such declining performance in a holistic manner from the supply chain perspective. This exploratory study was carried out by intense interviews from heterogeneous respondents, all of whom had specialized expert knowledge particularly in apparel/textile supply chain. Karachi is the largest city and economic hub of Pakistan, thus all the data was gathered in reference to Karachi-based garment manufacturing & exporting organizations (KAMEOs). Based on the findings a framework is developed to highlight internal and external factors affecting supply chain performance of KAMEOs.
